Hyderabad: The Congress has decided to contest all the 17 parliamentary seats in Telangana in the general elections slated for May, sources said on Thursday.
RC Khuntia, in-charge of All India Congress Committee (AICC) in Telangana, told news agencies that a recommendation to this effect was sent to the party’s central leadership for approval.
According to reports the Congress had struck a seat-sharing deal with the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), the Communist Party of India (CPI) and the Telangana Jana Samithi (TJS) for the state Assembly polls held in December 7.
The four parties had contested the election under the banner of “Prajakutami” (People’s Front).
When asked if the Congress would reach out to the TDP, CPI and TJS for support in the coming general elections Khuntia said: “We are talking to them. We have good relations (with them) and (we will) appeal to all parties to support us.”
