New Delhi: Sonia Gandhi, former Congress Chairman was unanimously elected as the Chairperson of the Congress Parliamentary Party on Saturday.
During the Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting at the central hall of the Parliament, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge proposed Gandhi’s name for the post with other leaders’ support for the move.
Notably, Sonia Gandhi, a Rajya Sabha MP, has been re-elected to the said post.
Earlier today, the CWC meeting passed a resolution selecting MP Rahul Gandhi as the Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha.
In the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, the Congress’s total seats increased to 100 from 52 in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, making the country’s oldest party the second-largest party in the recent polls.
Several prominent leaders from the Congress party, such as UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, party president Mallikarjun Kharge and general secretary KC Venugopal, attended the CWC meeting.
