Rising cases of Congo virus across Pakistan are reported as a new patient of the virus was detected in Quetta on Sunday as per local reports.
A 32-year-old patient from Qila Saifullah, a city in the Balochistan province, is currently receiving medical care in the isolation ward at Fatima Jinnah Hospital.
This marks the 13th reported case of the Congo virus in Pakistan this year. Unfortunately, one patient has already lost their life due to the virus in 2024. Earlier, an 18-year-old diagnosed with the Congo virus passed away in Peshawar. The patient had symptoms like high fever, body aches, and vomiting, prompting their admission to Khyber Teaching Hospital.
The Congo virus is caused by a tick-borne Nairovirus. Animals such as cattle, goats, sheep, and hares carry this virus, which can be transmitted to humans through tick bites or contact with infected blood or tissues during and after slaughter.
