Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police has arrested Niranjan Nayak (27) of Nayapalli area on charges of stealing valuables from a locked car here and forwarded him to court today.
According to the reports, one Madhupriya Swain got down in front of the passport office, and went inside by keeping her vanity bag containing gold ornaments and one mobile phone inside her car. She was also accompanied by her husband.
After returning, the couple found the bag missing from the car and came to know that some miscreant had made away with the bag containing cash and ornaments taking advantage of their absence.
Following this, Madhupriya’s husband Rajesh Kumar Swain lodged a complaint with Nayapalli police on the same day and a probe was initiated.
The cops managed to trap Nayak after gathering information from intelligence sources, with the help of CCTV and from the mobile service provider.
During the interrogation, the accused confessed to have committed the crime following which the stolen gold ornaments and mobile phone were recovered. One gold necklace, one gold Magalsutra, three pairs of gold bangles, one gold chain, one MI Note Pro mobile phone and a copy of loan pawn ticket were seized from him.
“The accused has been sent to judicial custody. Further investigation is on to identify involvement of the other persons if any,” a press note released by the office of Deputy Commissioner of Police, Twin City, stated.
