Cuttack: While a college girl was set on fire in her house in Cuttack city a couple of days ago, Police are yet to nab the mastermind behind the gruesome attack.
However, three cousins of the girl were detained for questioning.
Notably, miscreants set afire the college girl by dousing kerosene and petrol on her at a rented house here. The miscreants had tied her hands and legs before setting her afire in most inhuman condition.
The girl who is studying in Plus Two Science is a brilliant student and excellent at studies. The miscreants burnt her in an attempt to kill her, but she is now struggling to survive following severe burn injuries.
Sources said that this is the result of a one-sided love affair. The girl in question was being harassed by a youth who happens to be her cousin. It all started two months ago when a girl’s son of niece proposed her for an illicit relationship. As she did not succumb to his pressure, the youth who was extremely shrewd took the assistance of one of his cousin brothers to teach her a lesson.
The youth then hit upon a plan to demoralize the girl through facebook and other social media platforms. The wily youth hacked the facebook account of the said girl and morphed photographs were posted on the site. It was alleged that a number of nude pictures were posted on facebook using the hacked account of the girl which went viral putting the her in embarrassing situation.
The girl’s father alleged that the situation would have not been worsened had the police acted quickly and effectively to nab the culprits. He said he had lodged a complaint at Bentakar police outpost, but the police officials allegedly did not give enough attention to the complaint.
Although the cops detained two cousins of the girl from BaiyalishMouza, sources said that the real culprit behind the gory incident is yet to be arrested. The arrested duo are being quizzed by SDPO Asim Mishra, ACP SN Muduli, Inspector Ashutosh Mishra and Ajay Das.
Police sources said nothing has transpired from the marathon questioning of the duo. The sources further said till today the police are yet to get any clue from the CCTV footage.
