Coal-fired plants must be phased out to save planet: Report
New Delhi: The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) report said climate change which can change the face of the earth can be tackled.
As per the report, countries would have to bring down emissions by 7.6 per cent every year on an average to achieve the 1.5-degree goal.
The report said there are five ways to tackle carbon emissions. Countries must stop issuing new extraction licenses for undeveloped fossil fuel sites to reduce carbon emissions.
The UNEP report further said that the coal-fired power plants are not a sustainable choice and must be phased out.
As transportation makes up 28% of the world’s carbon emissions, countries must use electric buses and high-speed trains and subways to achieve the end.
