Coaching centre owner held after Class-IX drowns in pond
Sambalpur: The owner of a coaching centre in Sambalpur district was arrested following the death of a minor boy who was drowned in the nearby pond.
The deceased minor boy, identified as Rajat Kumar Sahu, was a Class-IX student who was attending a one-month summer course at the coaching centre in Singhapalli area.
According to sources, locals found the Rajat floating in a pond and immediately alerted the authorities of the coaching centre.
Following this, the authorities called Rajat’s father stating that the student was admitted to the hospital as his condition was unwell. His father rushed to Sambalpur from their home at Bamara area, but by then Rajat was declared dead by doctors.
Following a preliminary investigation, it was known that Rajat had gone to a nearby pond along with a few other students where he drowned. An unnatural death (UD) case has been registered by the police.
The bereaved family lodged an FIR with the police against the coaching centre’s authorities, after they failed to provide satisfactory answers regarding the incident.
Acting on the complaint, cops arrested the owner of the coaching centre Ashit Purohit.
Meanwhile, Ashit stated that he was unaware of the incident and that the student was immediately admitted to the hospital in an unconscious state after he was rescued from the pond.
