In a significant move to engage the Odia diaspora in the state’s development, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi announced a dedicated policy for Non-Resident Odias (NROs) during the 18th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas Convention. The announcement was made during an interactive session with NROs, where the Chief Minister emphasized the importance of their participation in Odisha’s journey towards prosperity.
The new policy aims to ensure the active involvement of NROs in various developmental initiatives. CM Majhi highlighted that a state government minister will be specifically tasked with addressing the issues and grievances of the NROs, as well as coordinating their contributions to the state’s progress. The Department of Language, Literature, and Culture will serve as the nodal department for this initiative.
During his address, CM Majhi referred to the NROs as the “triple engine” of Odisha’s development, complementing the efforts of the state and central governments. He encouraged the diaspora to actively participate in the “Utkal Odisha” and “Make-in-Odisha” initiatives, which aim to accelerate the state’s growth.
The Chief Minister also acknowledged the role of NROs in promoting Odia culture and traditions abroad, describing them as a bridge between Odisha and the countries they reside in. He invited NROs to share their ideas and opinions to help build a prosperous Odisha, emphasizing the state’s commitment to engaging with the Odia diaspora.
The announcement has been met with enthusiasm from the NRO community, who are eager to contribute to the state’s development and maintain their cultural heritage.
