Three days of continuous rains have left Malkangiri district, which is inhabited by tribals, in a state of chaos. Although there has been a slight improvement in the flood situation, the misery of the people is increasing. Many roads throughout the district have been destroyed. Homes have been damaged, and communication lines remain disrupted. In response to the deluge, six ODRAF units and five fire brigades have been deployed to the area, relocating approximately 1700 individuals to safety.
The flood situation in the district of Malkangiri is gradually improving. Water levels, which had risen to 5 to 10 feet above the bridges at Pangam, Kangurukunda, Poteru, MV-90, MV-7, and MV-96 on National Highway 326, are receding. Normalcy is returning as the water subsides. The Sukuma Bridge, which had 4 to 5 feet of water during the peak of the rains, resulted in severed connections with Chhattisgarh. Additionally, routes to Andhra Pradesh and Telangana were also disrupted.
