Class IX girl killed during tree felling in Kendrapara, family stages protest


Kendrapara: A Class IX girl, who sustained critical injuries after a huge branch of a tree fell on her during felling in Kendrapara town, succumbed while undergoing treatment at SCB Medical College and Hospital today morning.

The family members of the deceased girl, identified as Sejal Pal (14), daughter of Sisir Pal a resident of Kajala area here, have reportedly staged a protest by placing the body in front of Kajala Urban Cooperative Bank demanding compensation for the loss.

According to reports, a huge eucalyptus tree was being cut felled in the premise of the Urban Co-operative Bank here yesterday. Sejal, who was on her way to home after tuition classes, was going through the road on the backside of the bank when a huge branch fell on her.

Sejal sustained critical injuries in the mishap and was initially rushed to the Kendrapara DHH. Later, she was shifted to SCBMCH as her health condition worsened. However, Sejal breathed her last while undergoing treatment at the SCB this morning.

Following this, the family member and locals staged a protest in front of the bank demanding compensation for the loss. They alleged that the tree was being felled without prior permission and adequate precaution measures, as a result, the minor girl fell victim to the mishap.
