China Reports First Monkeypox Case: Report

Beijing: China has reported its first case of monkeypox in the western megacity of Chongqing, according to reports.

The traveller, who arrived in China, has been put in quarantine. All close contacts have been isolated and are under medical observation, the municipal health commission said in a statement.

The person concerned entered Chongqing city in transit from abroad and showed symptoms such as a skin rash during their quarantine period for COVID, according to the statement.

The monkeypox case was confirmed once the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention reviewed test results. As per the report, the traveller is receiving treatment at a designated hospital and is in stable condition.
