Chennai: Senior Congress leader and former finance minister Chidambaram ruled out plebiscite for Kashmir and said it will not be allowed to secede from India.
The former finance minister said utilizing the latest stand-off with Pakistan for political gains is “very complicated” and added that to avoid war is the best option out.
Chidambaram said :”I certainly will not allow Kashmir to secede from India, that is not allowed, that is a no go area.”
The former finance minister said as per his understanding the citizens of Kashmir demand self-governance. This demand can be given to them.
He said in order to deal with Islamabad, New Delhi has to chart out a mixture of foreign policy, defence and security policies.
Pakistan has multiple centres of power, Chidambaram said. These are the State, the Army and militant outfits like the Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM).
