New Delhi: Senior Congress leader P Chidambaram has described J&K Governor Satya Pal Malik’s invitation to Rahul Gandhi as a tool of propaganda.
Reports said Gandhi and Malik were locked in a verbal duel on Tuesday over J&K Governor’s invitation to the former Congress chief to visit Kashmir and take stock of the situation.
The former finance minister said that J&K Governor’s invitation to Gandhi was never a sincere invitation and was only a “tool of propaganda”.
Malik had earlier said that he would send an aircraft for Gandhi to visit Kashmir and observe the ground situation.
“I have invited Rahul Gandhi to come here. I will send you a plane, to observe (the situation) and then speak up. You are a responsible person and you should not speak like this,” Malik said.
Gandhi reacted in his tweet: “Dear Governor Malik, a delegation of opposition leaders & I will take you up on your gracious invitation to visit J&K and Ladakh. We won’t need an aircraft but please ensure us the freedom to travel & meet the people, mainstream leaders and our soldiers stationed over there”.
The Governor’s office, however, slammed Gandhi for putting “pre-conditions” for a visit and said that he was trying to “create unrest” and “politicise” the matter.
