Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government claimed that Chhattisgarh is using the Mahanadi water exclusively for industrial purposes. This comes amid the row over the sharing of Mahanadi water.
Odisha Water Resources minister Raghunandan Das told the media on Monday that the Chhattisgarh government, which had not been releasing non-monsoon water of Mahanadi to Odisha despite repeated demands, has released water for the first time this year.
The minister, however, said that the fact remains that Chhattisgarh is forced to release water as the industrial units are closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Das said that the government will bring this to the notice of the Mahanadi Water Disputes Tribunal during its next hearing which is scheduled on August 8.
