Chhattisgarh in the grip of coronavirus spike

Durg: Bodies are piling up at the local mortuary here in the last seven days. The hospitals are overwhelmed with over 6,000 infected with coronavirus.

The district is the worst-affected with coronavirus as a second wave threatens to go on rampage. The authorities are unable to cope with the flood of infections and deaths. The district has been completely placed under lockdown.

Sources said in most cases, the patients get admitted in critical condition. The oxygen levels have fallen to 40 or 50 per cent, they added. Doctors said there was a shortage of medical staff.

Away from the mortuary, similarly heart-breaking scenes can be witnessed at a local crematorium, where shocked relatives in PPE suits perform the last rites of their loved ones.
