Chhatrapur Councillor Murder: BJP’s Golak Mohapatra Fails To Depose Before Police
Ganjam: BJP leader Golak Mohapatra failed to depose before Ganjam police today in connection with the murder of BJD leader and Chhatrapur Councillor Laxmidutta Pradhan.
According to reports, Mohapatra was summoned to appear before police today. However, Mohapatra, expressed his inability to appear before it, citing health-related problems.
The BJP leader, through his legal representative, has sought an additional time of one month for appearance before Chhatrapur police. Reportedly, Mohapatra’s lawyer has met Chhatrapur SDPO, who will be taking a call on the next date of deposition.
On September 16, 2017, a group of men dragged Laxmidutta Pradhan (35), councillor of ward no. 6, out of his house at Surya Nagar in Chhatrapur and attacked him with sharp weapons. Pradhan was taken to MKCG Medical College and Hospital, where he succumbed to injuries.
Three special teams led by the Superintendent of Police of the district were formed as part of efforts to arrest the assailants, who fled from the site after committing the crime. Laxmidutta brother also sustained injuries in a bid to save him.
So far 19 persons have been arrested and charge sheet filed in the case. However, few other suspects are still at large, sources in the police informed.
Mohapatra was grilled by Chhatrapur Police on November 2 where he was quizzed about his alleged links with key conspirators of the case, Krushna Nayak and Duryodhan Reddy, and his alleged conversations with them over the phone.
The slain councillor was an accused in the murder case of Sakuru Behera, a CPI supporter, at Chhatrapur on July 23, 2014.
