Cheteshwar Stands Tall

Abhinav Pancholi

A simpler name, an easier calling,

A shorter hike  to taller  peaks,

Some flashes of  moody arrogance,

Moments of madness off the pitch,

More Teflon lesser concrete,

Less Wall-like more starry could have been,

Battaglions of  such pretenders, lineup like litter,

Cheteshwar, Our sheet anchor is heaven sent.

Patiently he waits, makes them bowl after bowl,

Painfully he sweats, but digs in  his heels,

Blunts bowlers’ fusillade, keeps temptations at bay,

Grinding is his business, runs mere byeproducts,

Obdurate pride in this glamourless craft,

Steadfast commitment to his  team’s cause,

Till the anchor is laid, ship wont float into unknown

Till the Wall stands will keep intruders away.
