Cheteshwar Pujara Scores Double Ton On Debut For Sussex
London: In his first match of the season, Cheteshwar Pujara scored a double century for Sussex in the English County Championship.
The right-hander faced 387 deliveries to score 201* and ensured that his side drew the match against Derbyshire. It was Pujara’s 14th double ton at the first-class level, and it is the third double century by an Indian player in the English County Championships.
The right-handed batter struck 23 fours during his stay out in the middle and put on a mammoth partnership of 351 runs with skipper Tom Haines, who scored 243.
Pujara’s knock was crucial as Sussex were following on in their second innings. Derbyshire had piled up a total of 505/8, and Sussex were bowled out for just 174 in the first innings.
Following on, the Sussex side produced a remarkable performance with the bat and scored 513/3 as the match ended in a draw. Pujara took to Instagram to offer his thoughts regarding the knock.
“Enjoyed my debut game for Sussex. Glad that I could contribute to the team’s cause. Looking forward to the next game,” read the caption on the post by Pujara.
