Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Assembly witnessed chaotic scenes today as BJD MLAs protested against Chief Minister Mohan Majhi’s allegations of job sales during the previous Naveen Patnaik government. The uproar led to multiple adjournments, disrupting the assembly proceedings.
Chief Minister Majhi, while presenting the Odisha Public Examination (Prevention of Unfair Means) Bill 2024, accused the former BJD government of rampant corruption in the recruitment process. He claimed that Assistant Section Officer (ASO) positions were sold for ₹25L to ₹30 lakh each, sparking outrage among BJD members.
As soon as the assembly convened for the Question Hour, BJD MLAs stormed the well of the House, demanding a clarification from the Chief Minister. The Speaker was forced to adjourn the session multiple times as the protests continued.
BJD Chief Whip Pramila Mallick condemned Majhi’s remarks, calling them baseless and demanding proof of the allegations. “The Chief Minister’s statements are an insult to the previous government and the people of Odisha. We demand that he provide evidence or retract his statements,” she said.
In response, CM Majhi stood by his claims, stating that the new bill aims to ensure transparency and fairness in the recruitment process. He emphasized the need for stringent measures to prevent such irregularities in the future.
