Bhubaneswar: The long-standing demand of direct flight connectivity to Surat from Bhubaneswar will become a reality soon as the Civil Aviation Ministry has given its nod for the commencement of the flight services from January 1, 2020.
The information was shared by Member of Parliament from Bhubaneswar, Aparajita Sarangi through a Twitter post today.
Today, I'm delighted that my request to Civil Aviation Ministry to commence a direct AI flight between Bhubaneswar and Surat is granted. Will start from 1st January, 2020 ( three days a week). Our Odia friends in Surat were wanting this.

Earlier on July 22, Sarangi along with Surat MP Darshana Jardosh met Civil Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri and submitted a proposal for direct flights between the two cities.
It is pertinent to mention here that last year Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had also urged the Civil Aviation ministry to introduce direct flight services between Odisha’s capital city and Surat citing that a sizeable population of non-resident Odias reside in Gujarat.
In a letter to the then Union Minister of Civil Aviation, Suresh Prabhu, Patnaik had highlighted that lakhs of Odias, who have settled and are engaged in Surat, face a lot of difficulties while travelling since there is no direct air connectivity between the two cities.
