Bhubaneswar: Following the arbitrary hike in board examination fees of both general as well as SC & ST category students for Class X and XII by CBSE, the Odisha Parent’s Federation has sought Governor’s intervention in this matter.
In a letter addressed to Odisha Governor, Prof. Ganeshi Lal, the Odisha Parent’s Federation wrote, “We strongly oppose the decision to increase the fees for class X and XII board examination of both general as well as SC & ST category students by CBSE. The exam fee hiked by 24 times in case of SC & ST Students. It was Rs. 50.00 in last year but now increased to Rs. 1200. In the case of General category students Rs. 750.00 earlier but now 2 times i.e. Rs. 1500. Interestingly CBSE imposed with late fee of Rs 2000 per candidate in addition to fee prescribed above.”
“It is illegal to impose a late fee for poor and needy students. Similarly, for appearing in an additional subject in Class X-XII, both SC & ST and General Students will have to pay Rs. 300. Further, it was not charged for SC & ST Students, 150.00 for General category students. The migration certificate fee fixed Rs. 350.00 per candidate as per notification of CBSE, ” the letter mentioned.
The parents’ body further urged the Odisha Governor to write a letter to the HRD Minister for his intervention and direct the CBSE to withdraw the arbitrary increase of examination fee.
Prior to this, the Odisha Parent’s Federation has sought Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s intervention in this matter. The parents’ body has also requested the Minister of School & Mass Education Samir Ranjan Dash and all MPs from Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha to oppose the arbitrary fee hike by the Central Board of Secondary Education.
