New Delhi: Time has come for CBI to be insulated from political executive, former CJI RM Lodha has said.
His response comes after Alok Verma was ousted by a high powered selection committee. The former CJI Lodha has said that the central investigating agency should be given independence.
News agencies quoting Lodha said time has come for it to be insulated from political influence.
“As long as the political executive continues to have control, whoever is in power, these type of things will occur,” the former CJI said.
Verma was removed by the high powered selection committee comprising Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Justice AK Sikri and leader of Congress in Lok Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge.
He was transferred as Director General, Fire Services, Civil Defence and Home Guards, but he resigned.
