New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a middleman while he was accepting a bribe of Rs 10 lakh on behalf of Punjab inspector general of police (IGP) posted in Ferozepur.
The arrest was made on the basis of a complaint of a retired SSP, Vigilance Bureau, Patiala (Punjab).
“It was alleged that the complainant was being falsely implicated in a case registered against him, for which a SIT was formed by IGP, Ferozepur. It was further alleged that the SIT had searched the house of the complainant and seized certain documents/articles,” a statement issued by the CBI said.
It was further alleged that the bribe was being demanded from the complainant for diluting the case against the complainant and for returning the seized documents/articles to the complainant.
Following the complaint, the CBI laid a trap at Ludhiana and caught the middleman red-handed while accepting the bribe of Rs 10 lakh on behalf of IGP, Ferozepur Range. The CBI seized some relevant documents from the office-cum-residence of the IGP.
Searches conducted at the house of middleman led to the recovery of Rs 5 lakh which was allegedly accepted as the first installment of bribe at Chandigarh.
The arrested accused was produced in the Court of Special Judge, CBI Cases, Mohali (Punjab) today. Further investigation is underway.
