Bhubaneswar: The Special Task Force (STF) of Odisha Crime Branch (CB) will interrogate arrested Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) handler Habibur Rahman of Kendrapara district.
In a statement to the media here on Wednesday, CB ADG Santosh Upadhyay said that the STF team led by DIG Himanshu Lal will soon leave for New Delhi to interrogate the LeT cadre with permission from National Investigation Agency (NIA).
“The team will question Rahman about his links in Odisha and assistance to the Pakistan-based LeT terrorist Shaikh Abdul Naeem to stay in Odisha. Besides, the team will also find out how many times he has assisted Naeem to enter Odisha and stay in Cuttack in disguise,” said ADG Upadhyay.
Notably, Rahman was arrested by the NIA from Indira Gandhi airport in New Delhi on August 6, after being deported from Saudi Arabia. Earlier the special NIA court has issued a non-bailable warrant against Rahman.
It may be mentioned here that, Naeem was arrested in 2007 while trying to infiltrate three terrorists into India through Bangladesh. However, he escaped from custody while being shifted to Maharashtra from Kolkata in August 2014. Later, he had joined the LeT on the directions of his handlers.
Naeem was assigned to identify the locations in the country where terrorist attacks could be carried out. To carry out the terror operation, Habibur had arranged hideouts and funds for Naeem on different occasions, sources in the NIA said.
In-charge Director General of Police (DGP) and twin city Police Commissioner Satyajit Mohanty on Tuesday had told the media that the Odisha Police was ready to provide all assistance to the NIA in its investigation.
