Jharsuguda: Days after an additional district magistrate of Shahajpur in Madhya Pradesh was seen slapping a shopkeeper for violating Covid guidelines, a similar video and pictures have gone viral where the additional Tehsildar of Odisha’s Jharsuguda district was seen brandishing a stick to an elderly roadside vendor.
The incident took place at around 11 am near Bombay Square on Thursday when the elderly man, who was selling watermelons, was about to close his makeshift shop on the roadside.
The video and photographs were reportedly captured while additional tehsildar Jobita Tirky was out on the streets of the area during the enforcement drive in view of the COVID-19 lockdown.
While checking the area, Tirky restricted the vendors from opening shop beyond the capped timing. However, the elderly man alleged that the district official tried to seize his weighing equipment and beat him with a wooden stick.
“I was about to close my shop today. Suddenly, the additional Tehsildar reached the spot and hit me with the stick. She also beat my minor son,” the elderly man alleged.
The video was shared on social media and drew criticism from several quarters.
