Washington DC: The United States House Foreign Affairs Committee has said CAB will undermine the “basic tenet of democratic values” of India.
The committee said:“Religious pluralism is central to the foundations of both India and the United States and is one of our core shared values. Any religious test for citizenship undermines this most basic democratic tenet”.
The US Commission on International Religious Freedom criticized the passage of the Bill in the lower House of Parliament and said that it is “a dangerous turn in the wrong direction”. The committee also sought sanctions against Union Home Minister Amit Shah if the Bill is brought into effect.
