CAA, NRC row: Union Home Minister dares Rahul, Mamata to an open debate

Lucknow: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday has dared Rahul Gandhi and Mamata Banerjee to an open debate on CAA and NRC.

Addressing a rally in here he accused the opposition parties of dividing the country. Shah said CAA was a law not to take away the citizenship of any individual, but to give citizenship to minorities from Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh.

Shah said that at the time of partition, Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist and Jain constituted 30 per cent of the population in Bangladesh and 23 per cent in Pakistan. But today, it’s just 7 per cent and 3 per cent, respectively, he added.

While Congress has vehemently opposed the act calling it unconstitutional and undemocratic, Mamata has urged fellow CMs to not implement the act in their respective states.
