Businessman Duped In Bhubaneswar; Three Cops Among 9 Held


Bhubaneswar: As many as nine persons including three police personnel have been apprehended on charges of duping a businessman on the pretext of doubling his money.

The nine accused persons have been identified as prime accused Prashant Panda, his associate Prashant Padhi, Raj Raibahadur, and others. The three accused cops are Dilip Mallik and Sandeep Prusty of Bhubaneswar UPD and Prafullla Bhuyan of Cuttack UPD.

As per reports, the victim Kamal Sah of Karanjia had been called by one Prashant Panda alias Happy to Bhubaneswar assuring him lucrative returns through a scheme on a deposit of Rs 1 crore.

Later, Kamal on Tuesday informed the Air Field Police Station about the fraud.

On the basis of the information, police reached the spot and detained the fraudsters after recording the statement of Kamal. The cops also seized mobile phones of the accused persons and a huge amount of cash from their possession.

As per Kamal’s statement, he had brought Rs 1 crore with him in a bag with 40 bundles of Rs 2.5 lakh each. However, police found 31 bundles of Rs 2.5 lakh each in the bag.

During further interrogation, it came to the fore that three police personnel were also involved in the fraud. Subsequently, nine more bundles were recovered. But Rs 50,000 was missing from a bundle.
