BTS X Coldplay Song ‘My Universe’ Debuts At No. 1 On Billboard Hot 100, Septet Scripts New Records

Seoul: Coldplay and BTS rocket onto the Billboard Hot 100 songs chart at No. 1 with their collaborative new single “My Universe.” Coldplay earns its second Hot 100 No. 1, and first since 2008, while BTS adds its sixth leader, all since September 2020, among several other notable achievements.

“My Universe” came in at the top with 11.5 million streams in the United States, 5.5 million radio airplay audience impressions, and 127,000 downloads and physical singles combined.

Released on September 24, “My Universe” is now BTS’s sixth song to top the Hot 100, following “Dynamite,” “Savage Love (Laxed – Siren Beat)” with Jawsh 685 and Jason Derulo, “Life Goes On,” “Butter,” and “Permission to Dance.” The group has achieved six No. 1s in a year and just over one month, making them the second fastest to do so after The Beatles’ record of one year and two weeks in 1964-1966.

“My Universe” is also BTS’s fifth song to debut in first place on the Hot 100, making BTS the group with the most songs to debut at No. 1. For the overall record including solo artists, BTS is tied with Ariana Grande and Drake.

Additionally, Billboard reveals that “My Universe” is the first Hot 100 No. 1 song with two groups billed as the leading artists. Notably, this is Coldplay’s second time topping the Hot 100 after “Viva La Vida” in 2008.

“My Universe” also takes No. 1 on both the Billboard Global 200 and Billboard Global Excl. U.S. charts, which rank songs based on streaming and sales data from more than 200 territories. The single has achieved 95.4 million streams and 142,400 downloads worldwide between September 24 and 30, with 84.4 million streams and 90,500 downloads recorded outside the U.S. It is BTS’s sixth No. 1 on the Global 200 and fifth on the Global Excl. U.S., while it is Coldplay’s first No. 1 on both charts.

The song enters the Digital Song Sales chart (which measures digital sales in the United States) at No. 1 as well, marking BTS’s ninth No. 1 and extending their record for the group with the most No. 1s on the chart. The song debuted at the top of the Hot Rock & Alternative Songs and Hot Alternative Songs charts and came in at No. 21 on the Streaming Songs chart, No. 23 on Alternative Airplay, No. 29 on Adult Pop Airplay, and No. 33 on Pop Airplay.

“My Universe” draws level with the chart peaks for BTS’ “Dynamite” and “Butter,” for the K-pop superstars’ fourth U.K. Top 10. It’s Coldplay’s 19th appearance in the Top 10.
