Brown Sugar Seized In Cuttack: Six Peddlers Held With Seizure of Sedatives

Cuttack: A team of Markat Nagar police on Wednesday night arrested six persons from CDA Sector 6 area in connection with brown sugar peddling. The arrested were booked under the NDPS Act and remanded in judicial custody.

The accused were identified as Abid Khan of Darghabazar, Nilakantha Naik of Khalikot, Baidyanath Behera of Chaudhari Bazar, Manas Ranjan Naik of Nayagarh, Sushil Mohanty of Kalyani Nagar and Pramod Naik of Mangalabag.

Police sources said 233 grams of brown sugar worth nearly 23 lakh were seized from their possession.

The police also seized 78 strips of N-10 tablets and other sedatives, cash amounting to Rs 31,500, four motor cycles, six mobile phones and a mixer grinder.

Police said three among the accused used to get their supply from Abid who purchased sleeping tablets from specific chemist shops.

The sleeping tablets and nitrogen tablets were crushed and laced with brown sugar for added kick. As the composition is very intoxicating, it was a craze among youths, ACP, PC Badajena said.

Two chemist shop owners were among those accused, police said.
