Bhubaneswar: A passenger at Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) here brought serious allegations of bribery against a Customs official.
The passenger, identified as Kuppusamy Nagarajan, who arrived from Bangkok yesterday night, alleged that he was forced to pay a ‘bribe’ of Rs 5000 for carrying gold despite producing legal documents.
According to the complaint of the passenger, he along with his friends arrived from Bangkok by flight No FD 112. During his customs clearance, the official allegedly took a sum of Rs 5000 from him as the customs duty for carrying gold which he was purchased from Bangkok.
He alleged the customs official did not give a receipt for the customs duty to him. When the passenger narrated the incident to his friends, they gathered near arrival exist and started arguing with the customs official.
They threatened the customs official if he did not return the money then they will make a complaint with the police station and also inform it to media.
After some time custom official returned back the said amount to the passenger. After that, all the group members returned back to their homes.
Reportedly, GST Additional Commissioner ordered a detailed probe into the incident.
