Bombs hurled in Puri Sadar, five of a family injured
Puri: Around 50 bombs were hurled at a house in Sandhapur village under Puri Sadar police station limits today injuring five members of a family.
The injured have been identified as Baishnav Bhoi (60), Sukumari Bhoi (58), Basumati Bhoi (26), Ajay Bhoi (32) and Akshaya Bhoi (19). All the injured persons have been admitted to the district headquarters hospital. The health condition of Akshaya and Basumati is stated to be critical, the police said.
“As per the preliminary investigation, it is suspected that the attack was the fall out of past enmity, probably due to some land dispute. Further investigation into the matter is underway,” said Puri Sadar PS Inspector In-Charge SK Mohanty.
As per reports, a brawl took place between two groups in the village last night over some issues. Today, at around 8 am the rival group reached Baishnav’s house armed with sticks and sharp weapons. They first tried to attack two of the family members who were standing outside. However, the duo managed to get inside the house and lock the doors.
Following this, the rival group hurled bombs at their house repeatedly. Even though police got information and tried to reach the spot, some people stopped the police van midway for nearly an hour.
Later, they disperse after a police force arrived at the village and took the situation under control.
