Bolangir: With just a day left for the general elections to the three-tier Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) in Odisha, in Bolangir district a primary school teacher has been suspended for allegedly taking part in poll campaigning, and an FIR will be lodged against a candidate for alleged auction of the post of Sarpanch in Bilesarda gram panchayat.

According to reports, Bolangir district collector Chanchal Rana today recommended the District Education Officer (DEO) to place Taranisen Padhan, Assistant Teacher at Lukapada Primary School, under suspension for allegedly taking part in the election campaign and initiate disciplinary proceedings against him as deemed proper.

“The inquiry report by Bolangir Sub-Collector revealed the Padhan, has violated the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) during the PRIs Elections-2022. The report also mentioned that Padhan was campaigning in the election for his wife Lipika Padhan, who is contesting for Zilla Parishad Zone No. 17 in Puintala Block during the enforcement of MCC. Padhan, being a government servant should have refrained from election campaigning,” the District Collector said in the letter to the DEO.

The move came after a video of Pradhan campaigning in the poll went viral.

In another case, the District Collector also recommended the Block Development Officer (BEO) to lodge an FIR at Puintala police station against Bilesarda GP Sarpanch candidate Susanta Chatria and others involved in the alleged auction of the Sarpanch post.

“A case will be registered at Puintala police station. The cops will investigate and take action accordingly,” said district nodal officer-cum-ADM, Mahendra Mohapatra.
