BMC Commissioner warns of stern actions for violating COVID-19 norms in city markets

Bhubaneswar: The Commissioner of Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Wednesday warned that stringent measures will be taken against the violators of COVID-19 norms in market places.

BMC Commissioner Prem Chandra Chaudhary said it is high time to stem the rising trend of deadly coronavirus in the city and added that action will be taken against the violators to curb the menace.

Sealing of shops and declaration of containment zones will be done if Covid norms continue to be flouted by the denizens of the city. He urged the people to go in for testing who are found to be with fever are not getting themselves tested for coronavirus.

Chaudhary said that presently there are nearly 3,000 beds which will be scaled up with additional 3,000 beds within the next ten days. He said nearly 50% of the available beds are occupied.

The BMC Commissioner said that 85% of the Covid infected patients are under home isolation. They are being supplied with essential medicines including Favipiravir.

Chaudhary said they are prepared for the worst scenario, but urged the people to wear masks and maintain social distancing.
