BMC allows Sital Sasthi at Lingaraj Temple

Bhubaneswar: The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) today granted permission for Sital Sasthi at Lingaraj Temple in Bhubaneswar amid the lockdown. The BMC has, however, laid certain conditions for servitors during the celebration of the marriage of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati.

Sources said that Sital Sasthi will be held without procession and decoration unlike every year. People participating in the Sital Sasthi celebration will wear mask mandatorily and maintain social distance.

People suffering from cold and cough will not be allowed to participate, the BMC said. The servitors will be allowed to participate in the divine marriage function after thermal screening.

The meeting was attended, among others, by Lingaraj Temple Executive officer Prasanna Das, BMC Additional Commissioner Abanikant Patnaik and servitors of different nijogs.

The annual car festival of Lord Lingaraj, known as ”Rukuna Rath Yatra”, was not allowed by the Khordha district administration on April 1 this year due to the nationwide lockdown.
