Dharamgarh: Police on Wednesday busted a blood bank black marketing racket at Dharamgarh Sub-Divisional Hospital and arrested eight persons including two technicians of the hospital.
The arrested technicians have been identified as Prakash Kumar Panda and Ramesh Nag. Among the other arrested four are brokers and two habitual blood donors, informed Kalahandi SP Batula Gangadhar at a presser held at Dharamgarh Police station today.
According to police, repeated complaints were received about menace of brokers at the Dharamgarh Sub-Divisional Hospital following which the patients were suffering to get blood.
The matter came to the fore during Kalahandi district Collector Dr Parag Harshad Gavali’s surprise visit to the hospital two days ago. After collecting information from a patient about the mismanagement in blook bank operation, the Collector warned the In-charge of the hospital. Besides, an investigation was also initiated under the direct supervision of the Kalahandi Collector.
Following the probe, eight persons involved in the blood bank black marketing were apprehended. Among the eight arrested four brokers have been identified as Pratap Bagarti, Laxman Naik, Ambu Prasad Naik and Nabin Khamari, while the habitual blood donors identified as Uttam Das of Rankabahal and Krushna Chandra Naik of Dharamgarh.
It may be mentioned here that as per the norms, the family members of patients should donate blood to receive the necessary blood group. They will also have to get the donated blood tested by depositing the requisite fees. However, it was learnt that the norms were frequently violated in the Dharamgarh Sub-Divisional Hospital and the middlemen were collecting money in exchange of blood.
Present in the press meet were Dharamgarh IIC Satyanarayan Pradhan, Dharmgarh Sub-Divisional Police Officer and Sub-Collector Padmanav Behera.
