Blast Furnace-5 ‘Durga’ Surpasses 15 Million Tonnes of Hot Metal Production


Rourkela: Blast Furnace-5, ‘Durga’, of SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) surpassed a major milestone on 22nd February by producing 15 Million Tonnes of Hot Metal.

Dipak Chattaraj, CEO, RSP has congratulated the employees of Blast Furnace as well as all other associated agencies for this splendid achievement.

P K Dash, ED (Works), visited Blast Furnace-5 on 24th February and congratulated the collective on achieving the feat. He was accompanied by D K Mohapatra, ED (MM), B R Babu, CGM (Blast Furnaces), several other CGMs, Senior Officers of the plant and a large number of employees of the department were present on the occasion.

Dash reminisced about his association with BF-5 in its initial days. He exhorted the collective to strive hard to achieve the next 1 million tonne of Hot Metal from the furnace in 4 months.

Speaking on the occasion, Mohapatra commended the efforts of the collective in crossing a major milestone and urged them to scale new peaks of excellence in the coming days.

It is worth mentioning here that Blast Furnace-5 ‘Durga’ one of country’s largest operating Blast Furnaces had started hot metal tapping in 2013. The furnace had surpassed 10 Million Tonnes of Hot Metal production in March 2018 and followed it up with surpassing 14 Million Tonnes Hot Metal production in October, 2019. The last one million tonne was produced in just 132 days!!
