Bhubaneswar: BJP’s Kakatpur MLA candidate Tusharkanti Behera joined the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) here on Tuesday, in the presence of party Supremo and CM Naveen Patnaik.
Behera deserted the saffron party after getting a ticket from the BJP to contest polls from Kakatpur assembly constituency and embraced the ruling Biju Janata Dal ahead of the Assembly and Lok Sabha polls.
On this occasion, the BJD chief said, “I welcome Tusharkanti Behera to the party. His joining will further strengthen the BJD.”
Notably, Kakatpur is going to polls in the fourth phase on April 29. Tusharkanti Behera had earlier contested Assembly polls in 2014 with a BJP ticket and had lost to BJD’s Surendra Sethi.
Worth mentioning, Bhagirathi Sethi of BJP had resigned from the party after he was allotted party ticket for Anandapur constituency. He later joined the ruling party and was given BJD candidature from the same assembly seat.
Furthermore, Congress leaders such as Sitaram Panigrahy and Sudhir Palai, among others also pledged their alliance to BJD, today.
