Bhubaneswar: BJP leader Jayanarayan Mishra has sparked a debate by asserting that public representatives have the right to retain efficient officers in their constituencies.
His comments came in response to the Odisha government’s recent directive prohibiting employees from influencing their transfers and postings.
Mishra criticized the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) government, accusing it of mismanagement and asserting that MPs and MLAs should have the authority to ensure competent officers remain in their areas to serve the public effectively. “All officers want postings in convenient places, and public representatives have the right to keep good officials in their constituencies,” Mishra stated.
The BJD responded by emphasizing that the transfer policy is designed to maintain administrative efficiency and prevent corruption. “For the interest of the people, efficient officers are posted at different places to execute government work. There is nothing new in the process,” said BJD MLA Dhruba Sahoo.
Meanwhile, the Congress party expressed concerns about potential corruption, urging the government to focus on reducing malpractices. “The government should come forward to reduce corruption, and we will welcome any step in this regard. However, it will not be good if the ruling party indulges in corruption by putting pressure through public representatives,” said Congress leader Ram Chandra Kadam.
The controversy highlights the ongoing tension between ensuring administrative efficiency and addressing the demands of public representatives.
