Bhubaneswar: Odisha BJP MLAs staged a night-long dharna near the statue of Mahatma Gandhi on the Legislative Assembly premises.

The agitators led by Leader of Opposition Pradipta Kumar Naik protested the suspension of party legislators Bishnu Charan Sethi, Mohan Charan Majhi and Jayanarayan Mishra by Speaker Surjya Narayan Patro.

Taking to his Twitter handle, Naik wrote: “We staged dharna near the Mahatma Gandhi statue throughout the night. The agitation will continue outside the House.”

The three BJP MLAs, accused of hurling shoes at the Odisha Assembly Speaker on Saturday, were suspended for the remaining periods of the session in the state assembly.

On Saturday morning, a ruckus erupted in the Odisha Assembly after the three BJP MLAs — Jayanarayan Mishra, Mohan Charan Majhi and Bishnu Sethi — allegedly hurled shoes at Speaker Surjya Narayan Patro as a mark of protest. They also alleged that Odisha Lokayukta (Amendment) Bill was passed in the House without debate on the same.
