BJP expels nine in Sambalpur attack on Sameer Mohanty


Sambalpur: Following the attack on state vice president Sameer Mohanty here over zilla parishad chairperson election, BJP state president Basant Panda today expelled nine workers from the party.

Agitated workers had thrown bottles and attacked Mohanty on Sunday who was severely injured. The party leadership today took the step after initially suspending 11 members including former minister Jayanarayan Mishra and former district president Nauri Nayak. Later, nine workers were expelled for six years from the party.

The attack on Mohanty came after supporters of Mishra and Suresh Pujari clashed.

The decision on Mishra and Nayak will be taken later, informed party sources.

Interestingly, the candidate supported by the party, Pramod Sahoo lost while rebel candidate supported by Mishra, Radheshyam Barik won as zilla parishad chairperson.
