BJD MLA Rajanikant Singh elected Deputy Speaker of Odisha Assembly

Bhubaneswar: The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) MLA Rajanikant Singh was elected unopposed as Deputy Speaker of 16th Odisha Assembly on Thursday.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik proposed Angul MLA Rajanikant’s name for the post. The proposal was supported by the Parliamentary Affairs Minister BK Aarukh.

As Opposition BJP and the Congress had not fielded their candidates for the deputy speaker’s post, Rajanikant was elected uncontested.

Son of former MLA Late Adwaita Prasad Singh and a resident of Gotamara village in Angul district, Rajanikant is a four-time MLA from Angul since 2004.
