BJD files FIR against BJP for dropping ‘Special Category Status’ to Odisha in 2019 poll manifesto

Bhubaneswar: The BJD on Monday lodged a First Information Report (FIR) against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for dropping ‘Special Category Status’ to Odisha in the BJP’s 2019 election manifesto.

A delegation of the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) approached Kharvela Nagar inspector-in-charge and submitted a written FIR, alleging the BJP of cheating 4.5 crore people of the state as it has dropped ‘Special Category Status’ promise in 2019 manifesto.

The BJP, in its 2014 manifesto had promised to accord special category status to Odisha.

According to the complaint filed by the regional party, in BJP’s 2014 election manifesto, the saffron party had promised that if they came to power, they would provide ‘Special Category Status’ to Odisha. However, when they came to power, they did not keep up to their promise and cheated the 4.5 people of Odisha.

This cheating has been proven when in 2019 election manifesto, they dropped the very aspect of ‘Special Category Status’ for Odisha which they had as the number-1 point on the first page of their 2014 election manifesto.

“This conclusively proves that while for five years they were in power in Centre, they promised but cheated 4.5 people of Odisha and their dropping of that promise from their 2019 election manifesto shows that they do not want to deliver on their promise anymore. This is a serious offence and construes cheating the people of Odisha,” the BJD alleged.
