Bhubaneswar: Odisha’s ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) became nation’s third regional party to get Rs 28.2 crore as political funding in 2019-20.
Reports said the Tata Group’s Progressive Electoral Trust (PET) has provided the highest contribution of 86% while the ITC has contributed 14 per cent. The BJD had received Rs 29 crore as political funding from 34 peoples or organizations in 2017-18.
The Election Commission of India (ECI) has said 10 regional parties and two national parties, the NCP and the BJP, have filed their annual returns by December.
The AIADMK tops the list with Rs 52 crore funding followed by the DMK with Rs 45 crore. The YSR Congress has received Rs 8.9 crore, the TDP Rs 2.6 crore and the Janata Dal (U) Rs 6.08 crore.
The PET has given the highest funding to the BJP nationally. It has been donating to the BJD since 2014. The BJD which is ruling Odisha since 20 years is getting huge donations from the PET.
