Bhubaneswar: In a bid to create awareness about the new traffic rules under the amended Motor Vehicles Act, a women’s bike rally was conducted in the city here on Sunday.
The rally was organised by the Odisha Women’s Adventure Club (OWAC) in association with City police personnel on to stress upon the importance of wearing helmets while riding two-wheelers.
The New Motor Vehicles Act has been opposed by several quarters of the society due to provision of hefty fines. In order to spread awareness among the people about the new rules, the rally was conducted.
Talking to media persons on the event the DCP Sagarika Nath said, “The aim to conduct such rallies is to propagate the idea of pillion rider wearing helmets and if there is a triple riding, the child should also be wearing a helmet”
She further stated that there is a need to follow the traffic rules to check accidental deaths and road accidents.
Following traffic rules one can save the life of both drivers and pedestrians. If we ignore these laws, then we have to pay a huge fine. If we are well aware of the traffic rules, accidents will come down, she added.
Road awareness bike rallies are aimed at raising public awareness about rules and regulations on road safety and to urge people to follow them. It educates drivers and the pedestrians about safe driving and importance traffic guidelines. Not following the rules and guidelines is a danger to both the drivers of the vehicles but also to the pedestrians and others road users.
