Patna: At least 25 people were killed and more than 25 lakh people affected due to floods in 16 districts of the state, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said.
Kumar on Tuesday said Sitamarhi and Araria districts are the worst affected.
Kumar told the State Assembly that he has instructed the officials to step up the relief and rescue operations.
The Chief Minister said :”A total of 125 motorboats have been pressed into service. The rescue forces have helped in saving 1.25 lakh people from the flood-affected areas”. Nearly 1.16 lakh people have taken refuge in the shelters set up by the government.
Kumar has conducted an aerial survey of flood-affected Seemanchal and Koshi region on Sunday and Monday.
Meanwhile, fresh floods in three new districts of Katihar, Purnea and Saharsa have added to the woes.
All the major rivers in Bihar are flowing above the danger level in the last 24 hours, causing embankment breaches. A number of villages have been submerged in water.
