Mumbai: In a major blow to Ajit Pawar’s NCP, four key leaders have submitted their resignations, indicating a possible realignment with Sharad Pawar’s faction in the coming week.
The departing leaders include Pimpri-Chinchwad unit head Ajit Gavahane, Pimpri student wing leader Yash Sane, and former corporators Rahul Bhosale and Pankaj Bhalekar. It is anticipated that these individuals will join Sharad Pawar’s NCP faction soon.
This event follows the disappointing performance of Ajit Pawar’s NCP in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, where it won only one seat. In stark contrast, Sharad Pawar’s NCP triumphed in eight constituencies, highlighting an internal split. While Ajit Pawar’s NCP, allied with the BJP-led NDA, secured just the Raigad seat, Sharad Pawar’s faction claimed victory in eight.
There is widespread speculation that additional Ajit Pawar loyalists might defect and align with Sharad Pawar’s group. Such a shift could significantly alter the internal political dynamics of the NCP and strengthen Sharad Pawar’s control over the party.
