In a bid to boost scientific studies and innovation in Eastern India, while fostering curiosity and education in science, particularly among the youth, the Odisha state government has decided to construct a Science City in Bhubaneswar.
The project will span 100 acres and aims to create a hub for scientific exploration and learning.
To review the progress of the proposed Science City, Minister for Food Supplies & Consumer Welfare, Science & Technology, Krushna Chandra Patra, visited the potential sites in Bhubaneswar. The sites are located in Haripur and Bhagabatipur mouzas under the Bhubaneswar tehsil. Minister Patra toured the areas and held discussions with departmental officials to evaluate their suitability. After considering all factors, one of the two locations will be finalised for the construction.
During the visit, Bhubaneswar Sub-Collector Dr. Manoranjan Sahu and Bhubaneswar Tehsildar presented maps of the sites and provided detailed information about their locations and features.
Prior to initiating construction in Odisha, a high-level team led by Minister Patra visited existing Science Cities in Kolkata, Ahmedabad, and Patna in Bihar. The team engaged in detailed discussions with the authorities there to gain insights into construction styles and best practices.
It is noteworthy that the proposed Science City in Bhubaneswar will feature modern exhibitions, immersive learning environments, and research facilities. The Odisha government envisions it as an interactive centre focused on idea exchange, designed to inspire and educate visitors.
