Bhubaneswar: The Special Task Force (STF) of Crime Branch seized a leopard skin and caught one person in this connection from Baramunda area in Bhubaneswar.
Acting on a tip-off, the STF conducted raid in the area and eventually apprehended the accused.
Reportedly, the accused has been identified as Prasant Kumar Naik, a resident of Mayurbhanj’s Karanjia area.
According to available information, the accused was smuggling the animal hide by stuffing the skin in the side-box of his two-wheeler.
A case under Sections 379 and 411 of the IPC and 51 of the Wildlife (Protection) Act has been registered in this connection.
The leopard hide will be sent to the Wildlife Institute of India, Dehradun for chemical examination.
