Bhubaneswar: A case has been registered against Bhubaneswar-Central MLA Ananta Narayan Jena at Baghamari Police Station in Khurda District for allegedly assaulting a woman and threatening her with life. Police has also booked two his associates identified as Bibhuprasad Baliarsingh and Dilip Sahoo and 20 others in this case.
According to a complaint filed by the victim at Baghamari PS, on May 19 at around 10 PM, the accused MLA and his associates arrived in front of her house and started hurling abuses for her husband. As no male members of the family were present at that time, she avoided opening the door. But, they barged into the house and assaulted her. Before leaving the house, they threatened to kill her with a pistol.
On the basis of the complaint, police registered a case under Sections 448, 294, 354 (B), 506, 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Section 25 of Arms Act and initiated a probe.
When asked about the matter, MLA Ananta Narayan Jena said, ” The complainant’s husband Dilip Mahabhoi had attacked my brother’s brother-in-law, who is retired Army personnel residing in Sarua Pubusahi, for refusing to pay extortion amount and dumped him in the nearby forest. On getting information, I and my associates rescued him from the jungle in a critical condition and admitted to a private hospital in Bhubaneswar. As per the complaint, the day mentioned in the FIR, I was at the hospital and the CCTV footage stands as evidence against the false allegations.”
Further, Jena said that the complainant’s husband Dilip Mahabhoi is a veteran criminal and the plaint filed against him is false.
On the other hand, Baghamari PS IIC Pranita Patnaik has said that the case has been registered based on the complaint and investigation is underway.
